Experimental lo-fi synth pop. Apsis Lappet is the solo project of Texas native Nate Kitchens. His music is as catchy as it is non-conventional. Listening to Apsis Lappet's debut, Suite Happy Sweet, I'm hit with waves of nostalgia. These songs are the songs created inside of my daydreams as a child. Kitchens manages to recall every note as he writes the aged lyrics and crafts this EP. Spidermunkey recalls a synth punk inner city attitude while Happier Day and Mellow remind me of early Magnetic Fields. The entire EP is mixed continuously without brake, evoking a stream of consciousness or a dream-like state of mind.

I listened to this album a while ago, and I kinda passed it off as nothing special. The other day I came back to it for some reason and gave it a good listen, and to be honest I was pleasantly surprised. I has a strong, but subtle start with Spidermunkey, which leads into Happier Day very smoothly. The album feels like a ride, a roller-coaster ride through the internal thoughts of a character or person dealing with more stress than he can handle. At least that's what it seemed like to me. The songs flow really well from one to the next, and the way they were arranged was perfect. The singing could use some work, because in my personal opinion it brought down the songs a tad, but if you can get past an average singer, you'll find some well produced and put together tunes that deserve a listen or two. If I'd have to reccommend two tracks to listen to, I'd say Spidermunkey and Mellow, they're the strongest out of the 5, and in a way, it's like the bread on a sandwich, they hold everything together..
