LM023 John Kannenberg - untitled (as yet)
 

I first encountered John Kannenberg at Stasisfield site, where he releases very interesting music. A lot of it is downloadable, just like on this site. Kannenberg presents his releases in a beautiful visual setting and I was therefore especially interesting in how the visuals translate into the audio. I wasn't disappointed and so invited John to submit something.

I was rewarded with this request when I ordered the cd-r that John also lets out. He sent the music that is presented below. Because of the length of the pieces I was a bit hesitant but now that archive.org also provides streaming audio I wholeheartedly recommend listening to these compositions.

Two beautiful audio compositions from John Kannenberg. "untitled" is a thirty-minute piece that slowly builds in intensity before expending its energy and tapering off - gentle static-like sounds and a high-pitched sine wave that gradually evolve into a deep, powerful drone-like hum. "For Splading Grey" (I'm assuming) is an eighteen-minute sonic tribute to the late thespian and writer who committed suicide earlier in 2004. To me a disturbing piece with lots of textures - parts of it create the illusion of riding on a train. Read a little bit about Spalding Grey at: http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/features/entertainment/wabc_030804_spaldinggrey.html and this compostion will make sense.
