LM035 Arturas Bumsteinas - Second Sequentina

Arturas Bumsteinas is a composer from Vilnius, Lithuania. He composes both electronic music and works for traditional instruments. In 2002 he formed a duo with Laura Garbstiene (as G-Lab). Bumsteinas intrigued from the very beginning that I heard work from him. He is also quite active in the Vilnius art scene, and I think that from the ex-Sovjet area a lot of talent wanders around working with the intentions and sometimes lack of decent instruments that was usual in my olden days. It's not always brilliant but there's definitely something interesting happening.

This composition, "second Sequentina", is an electronic sequel to "Sequentina for orchestra". There's a recording of the original at Bumsteinas' site, so you can listen to it. I think this Second Sequentina is an excellent example of Bumsteinas' music, but I really encourage all of you to check out the website and listen and watch the other things presented there.

As a bonus I present a short film that has been published on Bumsteinas' Mixthemixthemix project site. It's called "Bumsteinas plays Baldessari sings LeWitt (Instrumental version of Sentences on Conceptual Art)" encoded in avi format for all to see. This too is, to me, an excellent example of the mind set of Arturas Bumsteinas.

i like to listen to this second sequentina piece very much. really fantastic! never heard any combination of a la africana and a la holy minimalism like that before. more more more!

another excellent piece by the great Arturas which expands the possibilities discovered by this artist in past pieces as 'this uniform', a perfect mixture of electronics and 'academic' contemporary elements of the late avant-garde (specially the early NY school minimalism); the 'space-tone' of some of his others works turns here in a explosion of complex micro-structures perfectly assembled with a clear, firm, carefully structured narrative. one of the best net releases so far this year.
