A few days ago you could already read about the album Nacreous Clouds by Celer and here is already another one: The Everything and The Nothing. Where Nacreous Clouds was full of small short pieces here we find just one track. Though this track is build up from 13 different parts that were out-takes from the album discourses of the withered, also released by Infraction Records.
That this album consists out of out-takes doesn't mean it's no good. Actually, the opposite is true. The album is a fine listening album with great ambient pieces showing what the duo, of Danielle and Will, is capable of doing. Again the music has a dreamy touch, though here and there are also more dark abstract pieces mixed in. The dreamy parts are mixed with minimal drone pieces that sound kind of scary to me. A "funny" drift away from this is the use of a classical Chinese instrument called pipa near the end of the album. This gives a welcome light touch to the overall dark mood we hear here.
This album is not as consistent as Nacreous Clouds or Discourses of the Withered (that we didn't review yet), though The Everything and The Nothing still is a nice album with some pretty moments worth giving a try. |
