The trio of Moss (sound producer), Neuma (programming) and Tao (vocals) form a new project called Yarn: Moor. All three members are also active in other projects, but none of those seem familiar to me. Working as a threesome they have released their debut album So, I'll take your hand and... on the Noble Label.
For this album the trio has written eight songs which are said to be build up from collected sounds of nature and the daily life. These are modified and processed with computers and vintage analogue devices. The resulting sounds are combined with the vocals of Tao to form soft fresh musical pieces.
First thing to notice about So, I'll take your hand and... is the lightness the music is delivered with. The music is cheerful and happy at most moments. It's sweet sweet and tender music. Glitches are flying around to form rhythms, warm fuzzy synths deliver a blanket to wrap around you to give you comfort. The vocals, somewhere between rap and singing, are probably poetic but I wouldn't know for sure (my Japanese isn't that good)
The combined elements could be summarized as glitchpop. When you think about Múm, Piana and Tujiko Noriko you are thinking in the right direction. Fans of these acts would defenitly enjoy this album.
So,I'll take your hand and... is a pleasant light album which could easily be played on the radio and some wider audience. It would make the airwaves some more interesting to check out again. |
