Over the last decade or so, The two Dutch brothers Don and Roel Funcken has impressed with the joint venture project Funckarma, that first of all belongs to the IDM-based electronic music scene. A number of albums has been released on among others the well-accalimed IDM-label of ex-Gridlock member Mike Cadoo, N5MD. Over the years the two brothers has widened the approach to IDM by integrating styles such as reggae, jazz and hip hop with their Funckarma-project. A couple of years ago Funckarma released the 12" album "Dubstoned vol. 2" on German label Ad Noiseam. Now Roel Funcken is ready with another release on Ad Noiseam, this time with the solo album titled "Vade". The roots in IDM is a very clear imprint on the album, however this time, Roel Funcken also makes a clear move towards the dubstep scene. Thus the textures of the album are built on melodic IDM-soundscapes with dubstep-beats with elements of jazz and funk in-between. "Vader" is a deeply intense release that thanks to its clear roots in both the dubstep and the IDM-scene will appeal to both camps.
