REVIEWS FOR Archive (Mike Hallenbeck) - The Secret History of Karaoke
Stasisfield

Recently relocated to Portland, Oregon, sound designer Mike Hallenbeck crafted these tracks back when he still lived in Minneapolis. An amalgamation of drones, field recordings, samples and digital manipulations, the three tracks on offer here may not ultimately reveal the secret history of karaoke, but they offer an eclectic mix of sonic elements which also may not be entirely impossible to sing along to. This is sound art that isn't afraid to be funny (as in the surprise vocal sample in "Elephant", as well as title of track one - undoubtedly the best pun in Stasisfield's release history) while simultaneously immersing the listener in superbly crafted ambient environments.
